OAKWOOD VISITS RUST COLLEGE TONIGHT IN AN IMPORTANT HBCUAC DOUBLEHEADER

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Oakwood University will visit Rust College tonight in an important HBCU Athletic Conference doubleheader. The women's game is slated for 5:30, followed by the men's game.

Women's Preview

Oakwood (2-5, 0-2) will try to get its first conference win of the season against the Bearcats (2-7, 1-2).

The Ambassadors snapped their four-game losing streak Saturday night with a 64-61 win at Washington Adventist University.

Saniya Keys led the way with 21 points and 14 rebounds, including shooting 9-of-15 from the field, while Trenisha Adams finished with 12 points and six boards.

Keys is averaging 21.4 points and 12.4 rebounds, while shooting 55 percent (58-of-105) from the field. Adams is averaging nine points and 3.9 rebounds, and leads the team with 16 3-pointers, 18 assists and 14 steals.

Jon'Toyrian McNeal, who recently became eligible, played against WAU and Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams believes the 6-foot-3 junior center will be an even bigger factor going forward.

"Saniya and Jon'Toyrian will give us a 1-2 punch," Abrams said.

Rust, who fell 66-54 Saturday night at LeMoyne-Owen College, will counter with guard Patsy Johnson and forward Michaela Payton.

Johnson is averaging a team-high 14.6 points per game and has made 19 3-pointers, while Payton is averaging 12.8 points and 10.4 rebounds. She is also shooting 53 percent from the field and has 18 blocks.

Men's Preview

The Ambassadors (1-8, 0-2) will try to snap their six-game losing streak when they visit the Bearcats (1-6, 0-3).

Oakwood suffered a heart-breaking last second 87-85 loss Saturday night at WAU.

Jordan Bell's layup with two seconds left tied the game at 85-all, but Jaylin McNeil's layup as time expired lifted the Shock to the victory.

Bell is averaging a team-high 14.3 points per game to go along with 5.8 rebounds. He also leads the Ambassadors with 12 blocks.

Jeray Randall is averaging 8.6 points and has a team-high 15 3-pointers. Jamarkus Alexander, who recently became eligible, played against WAU and finished with eight points. A 6-4 junior shooting guard from Birmingham, Oakwood coach Simon Jacob believes Alexander will be a factor going forward.

"He's a scorer," Jacob said. "We hope he can become the missing piece we need."

Rust will counter with Isiah McCallum and Jayden Stephens.

McCallum is averaging 17.6 points and shooting 57 percent (33-of-58) from the field, while Stephens is pouring in 11.8 points and grabbing 7.8 rebounds a game.

Rust snapped its six-game losing streak Saturday at LeMoyne-Owen College as Stephens finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
