OAKWOOD BEATS WILEY TO END POSTSEASON DROUGHT, ADVANCES TO TAKE ON DILLARD WEDNESDAY

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The postseason drought is over for the Oakwood University men's basketball team.

After losing in the opening round of their conference tournament each of the last three years, the Ambassadors got it done Tuesday night in the 2026 Hope Credit Union HBCU Athletic Conference Championship inside Birthright Hall at Stillman College.

Oakwood, down by one at intermission, outscored Wiley College 45-31 in the second half and emerged with a 79-66 victory to advance to the second round.

"We finally got the monkey off our back," Oakwood coach Simon Jacob said. "Our effort was good from beginning to end."

The Ambassadors (10-17) will take on Dillard University (16-11) Wednesday at 8 p.m.

The Bleu Devils beat Oakwood 87-74 in New Orleans on Feb. 7.

Jordan Bell was one of four Ambassadors to finish in double figures.

Two days after being named first-team All-HBCUAC, Bell responded with one of his best games of the season, finishing with 25 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Naftal Morara backed Bell with 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Grener Polynice had 12 points, nine rebounds and eight steals.

Chase Jackson rounded out Oakwood's double-figure scorers with 10 points.

The Ambassadors shot 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the field, including 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from 3-point range, and 66.7 percent (20-of-30) from the free throw line.

Shamir Mosley led Wiley with 18 points, while Dontae Stringfellow added 13.

The Wildcats shot 40.4 percent (23-of-57) from the field, including 29.2 percent (7-of-24) from beyond the arc, and 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from the charity stripe.
