OAKWOOD DOMINATES DILLARD ADVANCES TO PLAY TALLADEGA IN HBCUAC QUARTERFINALS

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Oakwood University dominated Dillard University from start to finish Wednesday night enroute to an impressive 80-66 victory over the Bleu Devils in the second round of the 2026 Hope Credit Union HBCU Athletic Conference Championship inside Birthright Hall at Stillman College.
 
The Ambassadors, the No. 6 seed in the East, led 41-27 at intermission and took their largest lead of the game at 48-29 on a layup by Joshua Barnett at the 17:46 mark. The Bleu Devils, the No. 3 seed in the West, didn't put up much of a fight after that, coming within 10 points on two occasions, the last time at 76-66 with 54 seconds left.
 
"It was arguably the best 40 minutes of basketball we've played all season," said
 
Oakwood coach Simon Jacob after his team won back-to-back games for the first time this season. "Our guys were really locked in on both ends of the floor."
 
The win sends Oakwood (11-17) into Friday's quarterfinals against East No. 2 seed Talladega College (13-11) at 2 p.m.
 
The Ambassadors shot 50.9 percent (29-of-57) from the field, including 50 percent (10-of-20) from 3-point range, and 75 percent (12-of-16) from the free throw line.
 
Meanwhile, Oakwood held Dillard to 37.3 percent (25-of-67) from the field, including 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from beyond the arc. The Bleu Devils were 10-of-14 from the charity stripe for 71.4 percent.
 
Barnett filled up the stat sheet in leading five Ambassadors in double figures with 17 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals. He was 6-of-10 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
 
Jason Griffin finished with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers.
 
Jordan Bell scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds and had two assist and a block. He was 5-of-8 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and was 2-of-3 from the charity stripe.
 
Chase Jackson had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Damon Fann had 11 points and four rebounds.
 
Devin Lewis led Dillard with a game-high 22 points. Kialen Phillips and Ben Fort finished with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
