OAKWOOD'S MAGICAL RUN THROUGH HBCUAC CHAMPIONSHIP COMES TO AN END

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Oakwood University's magical run through the 2026 Hope Credit Union HBCU Athletic Conference Championship came up short Saturday night as Tougaloo University ended the Ambassadors' season with an 80-71 victory inside Birthright Hall at Stillman College.

Oakwood, the No. 7 seed in the East Division, had beaten Wiley College, Dillard University and Talladega College to reach Saturday's semifinal round, but the Ambassadors couldn't finish their comeback attempt against the Bulldogs.

Simon Jacob's team trailed 49-32 with 17 minutes left in the game and pulled within six points on two occasions, the last time at 56-50 on a pair of free throws by Jordan Bell at the 10:21 mark, but Tougaloo used a 12-2 run to go up 68-52 and Oakwood never threatened again.

The Ambassadors ended their season 12-19.

"I'm really proud of our guys," Jacob said. "Nobody gave us much of a chance after the way we finished the regular season, but our guys went back to work and bought into what we asked them do and went out and performed.

"This was our fourth game in five days and I think it finally caught up with us. Not to take anything from Tougaloo, but our guys were exhausted."

Chase Jackson led four Ambassadors in double figures with 19 points and five rebounds.

Tahj Evans finished with 12 points, while Bell and Naftal Morara scored 11 points apiece.

Oakwood shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the field, including 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from 3-point range, and 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the free throw line.

Tougaloo's Antonio Patterson led four Bulldogs in double figures with 29 points.

Tyler Hudson and Willie Anderson finished with 14 points each.

The Bulldogs shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field, including 2-of-8 from beyond the arc, and 76.9 percent (20-of-26) from the charity stripe.
