OU new Men's Basketball Coach

DUROSIER'S DREAM COMES TRUE AFTER HE IS NAMED MEN'S HEAD BASKETBALL COACH AT OAKWOOD UNIVERSITY

Wooderson Durosier has always wanted to be a basketball coach.
 
For as long as he can remember, becoming a basketball coach was always his dream job.
 
Recently, Durosier's dream came true as he was named the men's head basketball coach at Oakwood University, his alma mater.
 
"I just waited my turn," said Durosier, who played at Oakwood from 2015-2019 and was a part of two national championship teams with the Ambassadors. "I've always been told good things come to those who wait and my wish came true."
 
Jonathan Jones, the Ambassadors' new athletics director, called Durosier with the news back on July 19.
 
"It was a great call," Durosier said. "He offered me the job and I accepted it right away. I didn't want him to change this mind."
 
Durosier has been around Oakwood for the last 13 years.
 
After his playing days, former athletic director/men's basketball coach Simon Jaob hired him as the school's Intramural Director and then added him to his staff as an assistant coach.
 
Now, Durosier, who also serves as a Customer Service Supervisor at Huntsville International Airport, will try to help get Oakwood back to winning basketball games again. The Ambassadors have struggled mightily since moving up to the NAIA level five years ago.
 
"Coach Jacob has been a great mentor," Durosier said. "He has done so much for me. I owe him a lot."
 
Jacob believes school officials made a good decision in hiring Durosier.
 
"Woody is going to be great coach," Jacob said. "He's a player's coach. He's going to demand a lot from the guys and hold them accountable.
 
"He's very knowledgeable about the game and he has a great offensive mind. Oakwood basketball fans are in for a treat."
 
Durosier knows changes will have to be made in order to turn the program around.
 
"Everything is going to be different," he said. "I'm big on discipline and character development. Our guys have to be dogs to play for me. Winning is important, but it's not the most important thing.
 
"We will emphasize God first, discipline and basketball. Those will be the three pillars of our program."
 
A native of Orlando, Fla., Durosier played at Forest Lake Academy before enrolling at Oakwood.
 
He and his wife Trishauna, are the proud parents of Nayiel, their 1-year old daughter.
