OAKWOOD FALLS SHORT IN COMEBACK ATTEMPT AGAINST TALLADEGA IN HBCUAC GAME

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University, down by as many as 19 points midway through the first half Thursday night, battled back, but couldn't complete the comeback as Talladega College emerged with a 75-70 victory in an HBCU Athletic Conference men's basketball game inside Ashby Auditorium.
 
Derek Burditt's 3-pointer with 10:25 left in the first half gave the Tornadoes a commanding 27-8 advantage. The Ambassadors closed the half with a 24-13 run to pull within 40-32 at intermission.
 
Chase Jackson's layup with 10 minutes left in the game pulled Oakwood within 53-51, but the Ambassadors couldn't get any closer enroute to suffering their third straight loss.
 
Oakwood fell to 4-12 overall and 2-4 in league play with the loss. Talladega improved to 8-7 and 5-1.
 
Jordan Bell, playing for the first time this year after missing two games due to personal problems, led the Ambassadors with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Joshua Barnett finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. He also had two assists and two steals.
 
Oakwood shot 35.3 percent (24-of-68) from the field, including 25.9 percent (7-of-27) from 3-point range, and 60 percent (15-of-25) from the free throw line.
 
Shaun Walker led three Tornadoes in double figures with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Tre Simmons finished with 15 points, while Burditt added 10.
 
Talladega shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field, including 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from beyond the arc, and 58.8 percent (20-of-34) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood hosts Voorhees University Saturday at 8.
