FANN, ALEXANDER COME UP BIG IN OVERTIME LOSS TO VOORHEES

DENMARK, S.C. – Damon Fann and Jamarkus Alexander combined for 46 points, but Oakwood University came up short Saturday night as Voorhees University outlasted the Ambassadors 84-80 in overtime in an important HBCU Athletic Conference game inside the Leonard E. Dawson Resource Center.

Oakwood trailed 30-25 at intermission, but outscored Voorhees 44-39 in the second half to force overtime. Unfortunately, the Tigers outscored the Ambassadors 15-11 in the extra period to come away with the victory.

The loss dropped Oakwood to 4-23 overall and 3-14 in league play. Voorhees improved to 7-18 and 4-13.

Fann finished with a game-high 27 points and seven rebounds. He was 9-of-16 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

Fann also had four steals and three assists.

Alexander scored 19 points and had three rebounds. He also had three steals and a block.

The Ambassadors shot 39.4 percent (28-of-71) from the field, including 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from 3-point range, and 77.3 percent (17-of-22) from the free throw line.

Oakwood played without leading scorer and rebounder Jordan Bell, who sustained a shoulder injury late in Wednesday's 73-70 win over Voorhees. Bell was averaging 15.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

According to Oakwood coach Simon Jacob, Bell will be re-evaluated next week. He won't play in Tuesday's regular season finale at Talladega College, but could be a possibility when the Ambassadors play in the HBCUAC Championship in Tuscaloosa, beginning Feb. 25.

Keshawn Evans led three Tigers in double figures with 21 points. Dylan Magloire finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Bryce Wilson added 12 points.

Voorhees shot 51.7 percent (31-of-60) from the field, including 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from beyond the arc, and 63 percent (17-of-27) from the charity stripe.

Voorhees outscored Oakwood 52-38 in points in the paint and 30-14 in bench points, while the Ambassadors outscored the Tigers 29-11 in points off turnovers.
