OAKWOOD STRUGGLES MIGHTLY IN LOPSIDED LOSS TO TALLADEGA COLLEGE

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Oakwood University struggled out of the gate and never recovered as Talladega College came away with an easy 89-60 victory Tuesday night in an HBCU Athletic Conference game inside the Billy C. Hawkins Student Activity Center.

The Ambassadors trailed 51-22 at intermission and didn't pose much of a threat in the second half.

Oakwood fell to 4-24 overall and 3-15 in league play. Talladega College improved to 19-8 and 12-6.

Jamarkus Alexander led Oakwood with 12 points. He was 5-of-13 from the field, including 2-of-6 from 3-point range, with two steals. Nobody else had more than eight points.

The Ambassadors shot 36.7 percent (22-of-60) from the field, including 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from 3-point range, and 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the free throw line.

Lamont Sams led six Talladega College players in double figures with 19 points.

Malachi Chavis, who played at Sparkman High School, finished with 14 points, while Shaun Walker and Jordan Brewer finished with 13 and 12, respectively. Aj Morman had 11 and Wilfred Campbell had 10.

The Tornadoes shot 61.8 percent (34-of-55) from the field, including 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from beyond the arc, and 75 percent (15-of-20) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood awaits word on who it will play next week in the HBCUAC Championship in Tuscaloosa at Stillman College.
