ALEXANDER, FANN SEND OAKWOOD'S SENIORS OUT WITH A BANG

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The night was supposed to belong to Oakwood University's seniors, but some other members of the team stole some of their thunder.

On a night when the Ambassadors recognized seniors Steven Aroh, Khari Person and Brian Williams, juniors Jamarkus Alexander and Damon Fann helped send them out with a bang on Senior Night.

Alexander scored 10 of his 17 points in the final seven-plus minutes, including 10 in a row, while  Fann scored six of his eight points in the final eight minutes, including two free throws with 13 seconds left to lift Oakwood to a thrilling come-from-behind 73-70 victory over Voorhees University in a key HBCU Athletic Conference game Wednesday night inside Ashby Auditorium.

The Ambassadors trailed 61-52 after Darius Elkins' three-point play with just under nine minutes remaining.

From that point on, Oakwood closed the game on a 21-9 run as Alexander and Fann combined for 16 of the Ambassadors' final 21 points.

"Those two guys came up big for us when we needed them the most," Oakwood coach Simon Jacob said.

Daethan Harris missed a 3-pointer as time expired that could have forced overtime.

The Ambassadors improved to 4-22 overall and 3-13 in league play with the win. The Tigers fell to 6-17 and 4-12.

Alexander led Oakwood with 17 points and eight rebounds. He was 7-of-16 from the field, including 3-of-8 from 3-point range, to go along with one steal and a block.

Jaywill Thornton finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Jordan Green and Aroh had 10 points each. Aroh also had two assists and one steal in his final home game. Wilson had three points four rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Person had three points, three rebounds and one assist.

The Ambassadors shot 43.7 percent (31-of-71) from the field, including 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from 3-point range, and 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the free throw line.

Omari Bryson led Voorhees with 24 points.
