OAKWOOD TAKES ON SUNO IN GCAC TOURNAMENT WEDNESDAY

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University will take on Southern University of New Orleans Wednesday at noon in the opening round of the 2024 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Hope Credit Union Men's Basketball Tournament at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa.

The Ambassadors, the No. 10 seed, enter the tournament 1-26 overall, while the Knights, the No. 7 seed, are 7-21.

SUNO swept the season series, beating the Ambassadors 76-61 at Ashby Auditorium on Jan. 11, and then taking a 91-78 victory in New Orleans on Feb. 15.

The second game Wednesday pits No 8 seed University of the Virgin Islands (8-14) vs. No. 9 seed Dillard (11-15) at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, No. 2 seed Philander Smith (18-8) will take on the SUNO/Oakwood winner at 2 p.m., while defending champion and No. 1 seed Tougaloo College (23-5) takes on the UVI/Dillard winner at 7.

On Friday, No. 3 seed Talladega College (21-6) will take on No. 6 seed Rust College (11-14) at 2 p.m., while No. 4 seed Fisk University (13-15) will take on No. 5 seed Wiley College (12-13) at 7 p.m.

The semifinals are slated for Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, with the championship game being held Sunday at 5 p.m.
