OAKWOOD WOMEN'S BASKETBALL POSTSEASON PREVIEW

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University women's basketball enters the 2026 Hope Credit Union HBCU Athletic Conference Basketball Championship playing as well as any team in the league.
 
The Ambassadors, led by head coach Ronnie Abrams, who was named HBCUAC Coach of the Year on Sunday, have won 11 of their last 14 games and are brimming with confidence.
 
"If we play the way we're capable to playing, we can beat any team in the league," Abrams said. "We want to win the tournament, but in order to do that we've got to take it one game at a time."
 
Oakwood, the top seed in the East Division, is 16-8 overall and 10-2 in league play. The 16 wins are the most in school history and the 10 wins are the most in league play.
 
The Ambassadors will play Wilberforce University today at 4 p.m. inside Birthright Hall at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa. Wilberforce beat Tougaloo Wednesday to advance to take on Oakwood.
 
Oakwood is 2-0 against Wilberforce this season, beating the Bulldogs 83-73 on the road, while coming away an impressive 85-56 win inside Ashby Auditorium on Jan. 22.


Women's Basketball 2026 Hope Credit Union Basketball Championship matchups, All-HBCUAC Award Winners Announced

The Ambassadors are led by point guard Trenisha Adams, center Saniya Keys and shooting guard Kamaria Murray.
 
Adams, a 5-foot-5 senior from Rome, Ga., was named first-team All-HBCUAC on Sunday.
 
She is averaging 15.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game. Adams led the league in made 3-pointers with 82 and is shooting a league-best 45.1 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Keys, the reigning Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, was named second team All-HBCUAC on Sunday.
 
She is averaging 13.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. Keys' scoring average is down compared to last season, but the 6-0 sophomore from Cottonwood is capable of putting up big numbers every game.
 
Murray, a 5-8 sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tenn., is averaging 13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. An outstanding volleyball player for Oakwood,
Murray gives the Ambassadors a lot of versatility on offense and defense.
