JOSIAH, OAKWOOD MOVE ONE STEP CLOSER TO EAST DIVISION TITLE AFTER OUTLASTING FISK IN HBCU ACTION

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Oakwood University's chance to clinch a share of its first HBCU Athletic Conference East Division title was slipping away Saturday night.

The Ambassadors appeared to be in firm control, leading Fisk University 68-57 with just over six minutes remaining inside Henderson A. Johnson Arena. However, the Bulldogs rallied, using a 11-2 run to pull within 70-68 at the 1:47 mark.

That's when Lydia Josiah took matters into her own hands.

Josiah knocked down a pair of 3-pointers over the next 30 seconds to keep Fisk at bay as Oakwood emerged with a 76-68 victory to earn a share of the East Division title.

The Ambassadors will go after the out right title Tuesday night when it visits Rust College in their regular season finale.

"We don't want to share the title," Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams said. "We want it all by ourselves."

The win lifted the Ambassadors to 16-7 overall and 10-1 in league play. The 16 regular season wins and the 10 conference wins are the most in school history. The Bulldogs fell to 8-15 and 2-8.

Trenisha Adams led Oakwood with 23 points on 7-of-17 shooting, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. She also had seven rebounds, three steals and one assist.
