OAKWOOD BATTLES BACK, BUT CAN'T COMPLETE COMEBACK

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Oakwood University, down by as many as 15 points early in the third quarter Thursday night against Stillman College in an important HBCU Athletic Conference game, refused to fold.

The Ambassadors battled back, pulling to within one point at 69-68 on a jumper by Saniya Keys with just over seven minutes left, but didn't have enough juice to complete the comeback as the Tigers hung on for an 83-77 victory inside Birthright Alumni Hall.

The loss, Oakwood's fourth in a row, dropped the Ambassadors to 8-13 overall and 6-9 in league play. Stillman, the top team in the East Division, improved to 20-4 and 14-1.

Oakwood outscored Stillman 25-20 in the third quarter to pull within 65-57 entering the fourth quarter.

The Ambassadors opened the quarter with an 11-4 run, sparked by a three-point play by Dekezia Moore and Keys' jumper to pull within 69-68 at the 7:22 mark. Unfortunately, the Tigers closed the game on a 14-9 run to come away with the victory.

Kamaria Murray led Oakwood with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. She also had five assists, three rebounds and one steal.

Keys finished with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and 10 rebounds. She also had two assists and two blocks.

Trenisha Adams had 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. She also had two assists and two steals.

Oakwood shot 52.4 percent (33-of-63) from the field, including 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from 3-point range, and 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from the free throw line.

Jamariah Turner led four Stillman players in double figures with 21 points. Raena Suggs finished with 15 points, while Hannah Boykin-Williams and Jaida Minters had 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The Tigers shot 40.6 percent (26-of-64) from the field, including 50 percent (13-of-26) from beyond the arc, and 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the charity stripe.

Stillman enjoyed a huge advantage in bench points (29-8), points off turnovers (25-14) and free throws (18-4).

Oakwood is back in action Wednesday at home against Voorhees University.
