KEYS, ADAMS AND BONE POWER OAKWOOD PAST VOORHEES

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Saniya Keys, Trenisha Adams and Morgan Bone combined for 58 points Wednesday night to help Oakwood University outlast Voorhees University 72-65 in an important HBCU Athletic Conference game inside Ashby Auditorium.

The Ambassadors led 43-28 at halftime and extended their lead to 56-34 with just under seven minutes left in the third quarter on a layup by Dekezia Moore.

Unfortunately, Oakwood allowed Voorhees to climb back into the game.

The Tigers cut the lead to 60-47 by the end of the third quarter and Alyssa Herder's layup with just under three minutes to play pulled Voorhees within 68-61.

Keys responded for the Ambassadors, hitting two free throws with 2:21 remaining to make it 70-61 and then buried a jumper with 65 seconds to help Oakwood snap its four-game losing streak.

The win lifted Oakwood to 9-13 overall and 7-9 in league play. Voorhees fell to 10-12 and 4-11.

Keys finished with a game-high 32 points and 11 rebounds. She was 12-of-20 from the field and 8-of-11 from the free throw line to go along with three blocks.

Adams scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. She was 5-of-8 from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, to go along with two assists and one block.

Bone finished with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Oakwood shot 42.4 percent (25-of-59) from the field, including 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from 3-point range, and 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the free throw line.

Nedisha Ford led Voorhees with 23 points.

The Tigers shot 37.1 percent (26-of-70) from the field, including 20 percent (3-of-15) from beyond the arc, and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood visits Voorhees Saturday night.
