BELL'S HUGE SECOND HALF SENDS OAKWOOD PAST STILLMAN IN HBCUAC ACTION

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Jordan Bell scored 21 of his game-high 29 points in the second half Thursday night, including five in the final 74 seconds, to help Oakwood University emerge with a thrilling 84-80 victory over Stillman College in an important HBCU Athletic Conference game inside Birthright Alumni Hall.

Bell's three-point play with 1:14 remaining, gave the Ambassadors an 80-75 advantage.

After the Tigers scored to make it 80-77, Bell's layup with 55 seconds left, put the Ambassadors up 82-77.

A Stillman 3-pointer pulled the Tigers within 82-80, but Damon Fann's jumper with eight seconds left made it 84-80 and sealed the victory for Oakwood.

The Ambassadors played arguably their best game of the season, shooting a season-high 60.7 percent (34-of-56) from the field, enroute to snapping their three-game losing streak. They also dominated the paint, outscoring the Tigers 54-32.

Oakwood improved to 3-21overall and 2-13 in league play with the victory. Stillman fell to 13-9 and 11-4.

Bell was 11-of-16 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and had nine rebounds and two assists.

Jamarkus Alexander finished with 18 points and nine rebounds. He was 9-of-14 from the field, to go along with two assists, two steals and a block.

Jaywill Thornton scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting and had six rebounds and three assists.

In addition to shooting 60.7 percent from the field, the Ambassadors shot 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from 3-point range, and 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the free throw line.

Michael Taylor led four Stillman players in double figures with 20 points. Tyler Martin finished with 15 points, while Jeremiah Miller and Calvin Finch Jr. scored 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Tigers shot 35.2 percent (25-of-71) from the field, including 25.8 percent (8-of-31) from beyond the arc, and 81.5 percent (22-of-27) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood hosts Dalton State Tuesday night.
