ABRAMS CONFIDENT OAKWOOD WOMEN CAN TURN THINGS AROUND

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Despite his team's 3-8 record, including a 1-5 mark in HBCU Athletic Conference play, Oakwood University's women's basketball coach Ronnie Abrams is taking an optimistic approach as the Ambassadors begin the second half of the season.

"I'm confident we're going to make a great push this semester," said Abrams, who's team is currently in last place "We're not scared of any teams in our conference. We've got to limit turnovers and rebound the ball.

"We're a young team, but we're starting to jell together and if we can string some wins together and get some confidence, we'll give ourselves a chance to make a push."

Abrams hopes that push begins this morning when Oakwood takes on Philander Smith in the Talladega HBCUAC POD. Tipoff is set for 10.

Today's game is the first of three games in four days for the Ambassadors, who will play the University of the Virgin Islands Saturday and Wiley College Monday.

"This is going to help us as we get ready for the conference tournament," Abrams said. "This atmosphere is going to be good for us."

The emergence of Kamaria Murray, who joined the team after starring on the volleyball team, has Abrams excited about his team's chances to turn its season around.

Murray, who can play guard and forward, has had some good games in the early going.

"She gives us a three-headed monster with Saniya Keys and Trenisha Adams," Abrams said.

"Kamaria can shoot, rebound and she's a good passer. I'm excited about what she brings to our team."

Keys and Adams have been Oakwood's top players thus far.

Keys, a freshman center, leads the league in scoring (19.4) and rebounding (12.5), while Adams is averaging 12.5 points and leads the Ambassadors in made 3-pointers (36), assists (33), steals (22) and minutes per game (38).
