OAKWOOD PICKED TO FINISH LAST IN HBCUAC PRESEASON BASEBALL POLL

NEW ORLEANS – Oakwood University was picked to finish last in the HBCU Athletic Conference Preseason Baseball Poll, league officials announced today.

The Ambassadors garnered a total of 20 points, finishing well behind defending champion Talladega College, who managed 111 points and eight first-place votes.

Wiley University was picked to finish second with 96 points, while Dillard University was picked to finish third with 91 points and two first-place votes.

Rounding out the poll was Southern University at New Orleans (79), Rust College (75), Stillman College (72), Wilberforce University (44), Tougaloo College (43), Philander Smith University (41) with one first-place vote, Voorhees University (40) and Oakwood.

Talladega's Miguel Oropeza and Samuel Guadamuz earned Preseason Hitter and Pitcher of the Year.

The Tornadoes placed a league-high six players on the All-HBCUAC Preseason team, including first baseman Oropeza, Guadamuz, catcher Armando Jackson, shortstop Jeriel Lamboy, outfielder Darlin Fernandez and pitcher Herson Fernandez.

Wiley had five players named to the first team, including second baseman Amir Mason, third baseman Ryan Ready, outfielder Jhan Carlos Javier, outfielder Eddie Garza and pitcher Keyon Guillory.

Fans can keep up with the action at HBCUAC.org. The 2025 Hope Credit Union HBCUAC Championship will be held April 30-May 4. The top eight teams will qualify. The location is to be announced.
