ALEXANDER, MCNEAL COME UP BIG TO PROPEL OAKWOOD PAST SUNO

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Nariah Alexander finished with a game-high 19 points and Jon'Toyrian McNeal scored eight of her 13 points in the last four minutes of the game to propel Oakwood University to a big 62-56 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference road victory over Southern University of New Orleans Thursday night at The Castle.
 
The game was tied 25-all at intermission and Oakwood led 45-44 entering the fourth quarter before securing just its third road win of the season.
 
The Ambassadors improved to 8-16 overall and 6-9 in league play with the victory. The Knights fell to 2-22 and 2-14.
 
Alexander and McNeal, who both came off the bench, combined for 32 points and 12
rebounds on the night as Oakwood's reserves outscored SUNO's reserves 38-2.
 
Alexander was 6-of-12 from the field, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range, and 1-of-2 from the free throw line. She also had two rebounds and two steals.
 
McNeal, who missed the last three games with an ankle injury, was 5-of-10 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
 
Nekaya Williams finished with 10 points on 5-of-11 shooting, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
 
McNeal's jumper with just over four minutes left gave the Ambassadors a 56-50 lead. She scored again at the 3:12 mark to make it 58-50 and after SUNO pulled within 58-55, McNeal scored to make it 60-55 with 48 seconds left. Her jumper with 20 seconds remaining made it 62-55 and virtually sealed the victory.
 
Oakwood shot 36.2 percent (25-of-69) from the field, including 40 percent (6-of-15) from 3-point range, and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the free throw line.
 
McKenna Harris led SUNO with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Jordan Harris finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Knights shot 27.1 percent (19-of-70) from the field, including 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from beyond the arc, and 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood remains in New Orleans Saturday night to take on Dillard University at 6.
