FOUR AMBASSADORS FINISH IN DOUBLE FIGURES AS OAKWOOD OUTLASTS DILLIARD

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Four players finished in double figures, including Nariah Alexander and Denaj'za Jackson, who came up big down the stretch, as Oakwood University outlasted Dillard University 64-57 Saturday night in an important Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game inside Dent Gymnasium.
 
Down 55-47 early in the fourth quarter, Dillard pulled within 55-51 on a layup by Sequoia Emmanuel with 7:52 left in the game. That's when Alexander and Jackson delivered.
 
They hit back-to-back jumpers to push the Ambassadors' lead to 59-51 and Jackson hit two free throws with three minutes remaining to help Oakwood secure its second straight win and third in its last four games.
 
Oakwood improved to 9-16 overall and 7-9 in league play. Dillard fell to 12-13 and 11-7.
Nekaya Williams led the Ambassadors with 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. She was 5-of-11 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and 9-of-12 from the free throw line while playing all 40 minutes.
 
Trenisha Adams finished with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, three rebounds, three assists and three steals while playing 40 minutes.
 
Alexander and Jackson finished with 10 points each off the bench.
 
Oakwood shot 46.7 percent (21-of-45) from the field, including 30.8 percent (4-of-13) from 3-point range, and 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the free throw line.
 
Cassidy Lowe led the Bleu Devils with 16 points and eight rebounds. Alexis Gie and Azaria Knox finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Dillard shot 37.3 percent (19-of-51) from the field, including 30 percent (3-of-10) from beyond the arc, and 88.9 percent (16-of-18) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood hosts Voorhees College Tuesday night at 6.
