MURRAY COMES UP BIG TO HELP OAKWOOD HOLD OFF SUNO

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Kamaria Murray scored nine of her 17 points in the fourth quarter to help Oakwood University hold off Southern University of New Orleans 73-70 Saturday night in the HBCUAC Crossover at The Castle.

Murray, who joined the team after volleyball season was over, also had six rebounds, six assists, one steal and a block on the night.

"Kamaria really gave us a spark," Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams said. "She had a good all-around game."

The Ambassadors improved to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in league play with the win. The Knights fell to 3-10 and 1-3.

Oakwood trailed 53-51 entering the fourth quarter, but Saniya Keys made two free throws to give the Ambassadors a 58-57 advantage with just over six minutes left.

After that, Murray took over.

She scored eight unanswered points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to give Oakwood its largest lead of the game at 66-57 with just under five minutes remaining.

Still, SUNO wouldn't go away.

McKenna Harris hit two free throws with 90 seconds left to cap an 11-4 run to pull the Knights within 70-68, but Madison McDonald hit a jumper to push the lead to 72-68 and the Ambassadors hung on for the victory.

Trenisha Adams led Oakwood with 18 points. She also had six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Keys finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds and McDonald had 10 points, seven rebounds, three assists, a steal and two blocks.

The Ambassadors shot 38.8 percent (26-of-67) from the field, including 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from 3-point range, and 55 percent (11-of-20) from the free throw line.

Kaylan Jack led three SUNO players in double figures with 22 points. Tierra Sylvas and Jordan Harris scored 20 and 10 points, respectively.

The Knights shot 37.8 percent (28-of-74) from the field, including 19 percent (4-of-21) from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood will take on Tougaloo College Monday afternoon at Dillard University. Tipoff is 1.
