OAKWOOD HITS RESET BUTTON IN VISIT TO UVI

Oakwood University women's basketball coach Ronnie Abrams says it's time to hit the reset button.

The Ambassadors, who haven't played in almost a month, will be back in action this afternoon when they visit the University of the Virgin Islands in the first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game of the new year at the Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center. Tipoff is 5 p.m.

"We've played 12 games and we've had a chance to evaluate our team," Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams said. "We understand what our players can and can't do and hopefully we'll play to our strengths and limit our weaknesses when we start the new year.

"We've got 15 games left and if we do those things, we'll have a chance to be in every one of them and give ourselves a chance to be successful."

Oakwood, which has lost three straight games, enters the contest 3-9 overall and 1-3 in GCAC play. The Ambassadors are 0-5 on the road this season.

UVI is 0-7 and 0-3. The Buccaneers fell 65-61 at Southern University of New Orleans, but were blown out 75-45 at Dillard and 86-50 at home against Fisk University Thursday night.

The Ambassadors are led by Trenisha Adams (Rome, GA) and Nekaya Williams (Atlanta, GA), who were first-team All-GCAC preseason picks.

Adams is averaging 12.2 points and 4.3 rebounds, while Williams is pouring in 11.8 points and 6.6 rebounds.

UVI is led by Jordan Carter, Ashukamayah Phillips and Kashay Bass.

Carter is averaging 13 points and 3.2 steals per game. Phillips is averaging 13.1 points per game, while Bass is pouring in 11.9 points and 6.4 rebounds.
