OAKWOOD UNIVERSITY RELEASES 2024 BASEBALL SCHEDULE

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University baseball coach Richard Hodnett released the 2024 schedule today, which features 45 games, including 24 at John Hunt Park.
 
The Ambassadors, who are fielding only their second team in more than a decade, will play 21 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference games as well.
 
"We're excited about the upcoming season," Hodnett said. "While we struggled mightily last season, we believe we'll be much-improved this year."
 
Oakwood opens the season Thursday at Faulkner University and then travels to the University of Fort Lauderdale for a four-game set Feb. 7-8.
 
The Ambassadors' home opener is Feb. 10 against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy.
 
Oakwood opens GCAC play at Rust College in Holly Springs, Miss., on March 9. The Ambassadors' first GCAC home series is March 16-17 against Southern University of New Orleans. Oakwood closes out the season with three of its last five conference series at home.
 
The Ambassadors' top returning player is pitcher/outfielder Jorge Hernandez.
 
A sophomore from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Hernandez was a second-team All-GCAC pick last season. He led the team with a .386 batting average, going 17-for-44, total bases (21), RBI (7) and doubles (4).
 
As a pitcher, Hernandez led the Ambassadors in innings pitched (31), strikeouts (26), complete games (4) and had a .918 fielding percentage as an outfielder.
