OAKWOOD WILL TAKE ON FISK IN GCAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Oakwood University will take on Fisk University Thursday in the Hope Credit Union Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Women's Basketball Championship Presented by Hank Aaron Sports Academy in Jackson, Miss.

Tipoff is slated for noon at the Owens Health & Wellness Center at Tougaloo College.

Oakwood (5-21, 3-11) enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed, while Fisk (17-7, 11-3) is the No. 2 seed. The Ambassadors and Bulldogs split the season series.

Oakwood won the first meeting 78-77 in the GCAC opener for both teams back on Jan 8 in Nashville. Fisk took the rubber match, coming away with a 75-67 victory Saturday night at Ashby Auditorium.

No. 1 seed Rust College will take on No. 8 seed Southern University at New Orleans Thursday at 5 p.m. No. 3 seed Philander Smith College will take on No. 6 seed Tougaloo College Friday at noon, while No. 4 seed Wiley College will take on No. 5 seed Dillard University at 5 p.m.

The Oakwood-Fisk winner will take on the Philander Smith-Tougaloo winner Saturday at noon, while the Rust-SUNO winner will take on the Wiley-Dillard winner at 5 p.m.

The championship game is slated for Sunday at 2 p.m.
