OAKWOOD SWEPT BY DILLARD DESPITE JONES' BIG NUMBERS

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Anna Jones continued to put up big numbers, but the rest of her teammates struggled offensively as Oakwood University lost all three games to Dillard University in an HBCU Athletic Conference series Thursday and Friday at University Field.
 
The Bleu Devils downed the Ambassadors 3-2 and 12-2 on Thursday before taking the final game of the series 9-3 on Friday.
 
Jones was brilliant, going 6-for-8, including three doubles and a triple, scored three runs and had four RBI.
 
Sara Tate, Mary McCluskey and Jordan Howard had three hits apiece in the series, but the Ambassadors left 30 players on base in the three games.
 
Oakwood is now 10-13 overall and 6-9 in league play. Dillard improved to 16-9 and 13-2.
 
Game 1
 
Oakwood pushed across two runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at 2-2, but Dillard scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the top of the seventh and kept the Ambassadors off the scored to claim the 3-2 victory.
 
Jones was 2-for-3 with a triple, scored a run and had an RBI, while McCluskey was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Oakwood left 13 runners on base.
 
Emma Newby took the loss, allowing three runs, all earned, on 11 hits in seven innings. She walked five and struck out four.
 
Game 2
 
The Ambassadors trailed just 3-2 after the first inning, but the Bleu Devils outscored them 9-0 the rest of the way enroute to the 12-2 victory.
 
Jones was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Howard, Tate and Ka'Nijha Arrington had one hit apiece. Oakwood left eight runners on base.
 
McCluskey took the loss, allowing 12 runs, all earned, on 15 hits in five innings. She walked five and struck out two.
 
Game 3
 
Oakwood fell behind 3-0 early and never recovered as Dillard swept the series.
 
Jones was 2-for-2 with two doubles, scored two runs and had an RBI.

Howard, Sims, Tate and McCluskey had a hit apiece. Newby took the loss, allowing nine runs, six earned, on 12 hits in seven innings. She walked six and struck out one.
