Jordan Howard was outstanding at the plate and
Emma Newby was terrific in the circle as Oakwood University took two out of three games from Voorhees University over the weekend in an HBCU Athletic Conference softball series.
The Ambassadors won Sunday's opener 8-2, before falling in the nightcap 5-2. Oakwood won Monday's series finale 4-1.
Howard batted .727, going 8-for-11 with three doubles and a triple. She also scored four runs and had three RBI.
Newby went 2-1 in the series.
In two wins, she went 14 innings, allowing three runs, all earned, on 10 hits, while walking five and striking out 23. All total, Newby pitched 17 innings, allowed eight runs, all earned, on 15 hits during the series. She walked seven and struck out 25.
Oakwood improved to 12-14 overall and 8-10 in league play. Voorhees is 9-21 and 7-11.
Game 1
Howard went 4-for-4, including a pair of doubles, scored three runs and had an RBI to lead Oakwood in the opener,
The Ambassadors led 5-1 after three innings and cruised the rest of the way.
Voorhees scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull within 5-2, but Newby blanked the Tigers the rest of the way.
Newby (10-5) allowed two runs, all earned, on six hits in seven innings to pick up the win. She walked three and struck out 12. In addition to her work in the circle, Newby was 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored a run.

Sara Tate all had one hit apiece.
Game 2
The Tigers built a 5-1 lead after three innings and went to beat the Ambassadors to even the series.
Howard went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Fuller, Jones,
Mary McCluskey and Tate had one hit apiece.
Newby (10-6) took the loss, allowing five runs, all earned, on five hits in three innings. She walked two and struck out two.
Game 3
Howard went 3-for-4 with a triple and scored a run, while McCluskey and Jones both went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to help Oakwood win the series.
The Ambassadors scored three runs in the top of the first inning and Newby (11-6) did the rest, holding the Tigers to one run on four hits enroute to the complete-game victory.
She allowed our hits, walked two and struck out 11.
King and
Ka'Nijha Arrington had a hit each.
