HOWARD, JONES AND SIMS SHINE IN DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST LANE

JACKSON, Tenn. Jordan Howard, Anna Jones and Toni Sims had two hits apiece, but it wasn't enough as Lane College swept a doubleheader from Oakwood University Tuesday afternoon at Muse Park.
 
The Dragons downed the Ambassadors 7-5 in the first game and 6-2 in the nightcap.
 
Oakwood fell to 7-4, while Lane improved to 2-5.
 
Game 1
 
The Ambassadors erupted for three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead, but managed just two runs the rest of the way.
 
The Dragons tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added two more in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good.
 
Jones was 1-for-2 with a two-run double and scored a run. Sims, Kaley Fuller and Mary McCluskey had one hit each, while Fuller and McCluskey had an RBI apiece.
 
Emma Newby (7-2) took the loss for Oakwood, allowing six runs, five earned, on eight hits in 4.2 innings. She walked six and struck out six.
 
Game 2
 
The game was tied 1-1 after four innings, but Lane pushed four runs across in the bottom of the fifth to take control.
 
Howard went 2-for-4 and scored a run to lead the way for the Ambassadors.
 
Jones, Sims, Rihanna King, Ka'Nijha Arrington and Sara Tate had one hit apiece.
 
McCluskey (0-2) took the loss for Oakwood, allowing six runs, all earned, on 11 hits in six innings. She walked one and struck out two.
