OAKWOOD'S TATE SHINES, BUT STILLMAN TOO MUCH FOR AMBASSADORS

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Oakwood University softball got three hits from Sara Tate and six other players finished with two hits apiece, but Stillman College scored early and often and swept the Ambassadors in a three-game HBCU Athletic Conference series Saturday and Sunday at Tiger Field.
 
The Tigers won 13-2, 13-5 and 10-1.
 
The loss dropped Oakwood to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in league play. Stillman improved to 8-15 and 7-2.
 
Tate went 3-for-4 and scored a run to lead the Ambassadors. Toni Sims had two hits, including a solo homer in Sunday's second game, scored a run and had an RBI, while Ka'Nijha Arrington was 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored a run.
 
Jordan Howard, Emma Newby, Kaley Fuller and Mary McCluskey also had two this each.
 
Game 1
 
In Saturday's opener, Oakwood scored a run in the first inning to take an early lead, but Stillman scored four runs in the bottom of the inning and pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding lead.
 
Newby (6-2) took the loss, allowing 10 runs, all earned, on seven hits in 2.2 innings. She walked five and struck out one.
 
Game 2
 
The Ambassadors trailed 8-0, but scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to make it interesting, before the Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to pull away.
 
Tate was 2-for-2 and scored a run, while Arrington was 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored a run.
 
Howard, Newby, and Fuller had a hit apiece.
 
Newby (6-3) took the loss, allowing 13 runs, 10 earned, on 11 hits in 4.2 innings. She walked nine and struck out four.
 
Game 3
 
Jones was 2-for-2, while Sims had a solo homer. Rihanna King and McCluskey had a hit apiece.
 
McCluskey (0-3) took the loss, allowing 10 runs, six earned, on 8 hits in four innings. She walked five and struck out two.
