COLLINS' HUGE HIT LIFTS OAKWOOD PAST VOORHEES IN HBCUAC OPENER

jAUBERT, JENNINGS, SANDERS ALSO SHINE

DENMARK, S.C. – Herb Collins' two-run single in the top of the eighth inning lifted Oakwood University to a thrilling come-from-behind 10-9 victory over Voorhees College Thursday afternoon and helped the Ambassadors split their HBCU Athletic Conference doubleheader.
 
Oakwood snapped an 11-game losing streak enroute to the victory.
 
The Tigers won the night cap 9-8 and won Friday's series finale 13-8.
 
Oakwood is now 2-18 overall and 1-10 in league play. Voorhees improved to 4-16 and 3-7.
 
Game 1
 
Collins' hit allowed Terrance Carr to score the game-tying run and Corey Levy to score the game-winning run. Collins, who was 0-for-3 before his last at-bat, finished 1-for-4 with three RBI and scored a run.
 
Oakwood trailed 7-0 after the first inning, but battled back and stayed within striking distance to pick up its first conference win of the season.
 
The Ambassadors scored eight runs over the next five innings to tie the game at 8-8 through six innings.
 
After Collins' huge hit gave Oakwood the lead, Carson Nelms limited Voorhees to one run in the bottom of the eighth inning and then blanked the Tigers in the bottom of the ninth to give the Ambassadors their first HBCUAC win of the season.
 
Landon Bradley led the way for Oakwood, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBI and scored a run.
 
Carr was 2-for-5 and scored two runs, while Levy was 2-for-5 and scored a run.
 
Joshua Mack was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Eli Kennedy was 1-for-2 with an RBI and scored two runs. Chance Jaubert was 1-for-3 with two RBI and scored two runs.
 
Nelms (1-4) picked up his first win of the season, allowing one run on three hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out one.
 
Game 2
 
Jaubert was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Akari David, Mack and Levy had one hit each to lead Oakwood in the nightcap.
 
The game was tied 8-8 midway through the fifth inning, but the Tigers pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame and the Ambassadors went scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings.
 
Caleb Edmondson (1-3) took loss, allowing one run on two hits in two innings. He walked three and struck out two.
 
Game 3
 
Jennings went 2-for-3, including a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to pull Oakwood within 12-8, but the Ambassadors couldn't get any closer. Jennings finished the game with five RBI.
 
Derrick Sanders was 3-for-5 and scored a run, while Colins was 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored two runs.
 
Jamison Green, Ahmad Woods, Jaylan Sharpe and Jaubert had a hit apiece and scored a run each.
 
Dakota Cobb (0-3) took the loss, allowing eight runs on seven hits in five innings. He walked six and struck out one.
