OAKWOOD BASEBALL FALLS TO RUST IN HBCUAC SERIES

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Jordan Jennings and Akari David had five hits apiece, but it wasn't enough as Rust College swept a three-game HBCU Athletic Conference baseball series against Oakwood University Thursday and Friday.
 
The Bearcats won 20-5 and 13-0 on Thursday and completed the series Friday with a 12-9 victory.
 
Jennings was 5-for-11 with two RBI and scored two runs in the series. David was 5-for-8 and scored three runs, while Joshua Mack had three hits, two RBI and scored a run.
 
Caleb Edmondson was 2-for-5 with a solo home run, one RBI and scored a run, while Jamison Green was 2-for-5 with two RBI and scored a run.
 
Oakwood fell to 1-14 overall and 0-6 in league play, while Rust improved to 5-10 and 3-0.
 
Game 1
 
Oakwood trailed just 2-1 midway through the second inning, but Rust pushed across six runs in the bottom of the third inning to take an 8-1 lead and was never threatened the rest of the way.
 
Edmondson went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and scored a run, while David was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
 
Jennings, Mack and Herb Collins also had a hit.
 
Game 2
 
Jennings and Jayden Coleman had the Ambassadors only hits in the nightcap.
 
Eli Kennedy (0-3) took the loss, allowing nine runs, six earned, on 10 hits in four innings. He walked one and struck out two.
 
Game 3
 
Jennings and David had three hits apiece and three other Ambassadors had two each, but it wasn't enough to take the final game of the series on Friday.
 
Oakwood led 2-1 midway through the third inning, but Rust scored two in the bottom of the inning and added a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 advantage.
 
The Ambassadors pushed across two runs in the top of the fifth to tie it at 4-4, but the Bearcats scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 7-4 and never trailed again.
 
Jennings went 3-for-6 with a double, scored a run and had two RBI, while David was 3-for-4 with a double and scored two runs.
 
Green went 2-for-3 with a double, scored a run and had two RBI, while Landon Bradley went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Mack was 2-for-6 with two RBI and scored a run.
 
Terrance Carr and Derrick Sanders had one hit apiece.
 
Dakota Cobb (0-2) took the loss, allowing 12 runs, seven earned, on 15 hits in 7.1 innings. He struck out four.
