OAKWOOD SOFTBALL LOSES FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON

FALLS TO ALABAMA A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University softball lost for the first time this season, falling in a doubleheader to Alabama A&M Wednesday afternoon at Bulldog Field.

The Ambassadors lost the opener 15-6 and the nightcap 14-4.
 
Oakwood fell to 7-2 on the season, while A&M improved to 12-5.
 
Game 1
 
The Ambassadors fell behind 11-0 after two innings and the outcome was never in doubt.
 
Ka'Nijha Arrington led the way for Oakwood in the opener, going 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI, while also scoring a run.
 
Anna Jones and Jordan Howard both went 2-for-2, while Toni Sims, Emma Newby,
 
Mary McCluskey and Sara Tate had one hit apiece. Newby's hit was a three-run homer in the third inning that put the Ambassadors on the board.
 
Newby (7-1) suffered her first loss of the season, allowing 15 runs on 13 hits in four innings. She walked five and struck out two.
 
Game 2
 
Jones was one of six Ambassadors to record a hit in the nightcap.
 
Jones' two-run homer came in the third inning and pulled Oakwood within 10-4.
 
Unfortunately, A&M erupted for four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a commanding 14-4 advantage.
 
Kaley Fuller, Sims, Howard, Tate and Amali Creque had a hit apiece. Fuller and Tate had one RBI each.
 
McCluskey (0-1) took the loss, allowing 14 runs on 12 hits in three innings. She walked three and struck out one.
