GREEN, JACKSON AND STRONG BENCH PLAY HELP OAKWOOD HOLD OFF WASHINGTON ADVENTIST

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jordan Green and Chase Jackson combined for 45 points and Oakwood University got 45 points from its bench Saturday night as the Ambassadors outlasted Washington Adventist University 86-82 in the season opener for both teams inside Ashby Auditorium.

The victory was career win No. 1 for new head coach Wooderson Durosier.

"I want to thank God for my first collegiate win," Durosier said. "Chase and Jordan played extremely well and we had a lot of people contribute off the bench.

"The thing we have to remember is this is a long season. There will be some ups and downs. We can't get too high or too low. Hopefully, everyone will be excited to come out and watch Oakwood basketball this year."

The Ambassadors trailed 35-32 at intermission, but Jackson tied the game at 42-all with two free throws at the 16:16 mark.

Kamron Carryl's 3-pointer with just over nine minutes left gave Oakwood a 64-56 advantage, but WAU wouldn't go away.

The Shock battled back and got within one on two different occasions, the last time at 69-68 with 4:39 remaining, but couldn't get any closer.

Oakwood used a 12-4 over the next three-plus minutes to go up 81-72 after a pair of free throws by Devonte Powell and the outcome was never in doubt.

Green recorded a double-double, finishing with 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead Oakwood. He was 5-of-8 from the field, 1-of-2 from 3-point range and 12-of-16 from the free throw line.

Jackson missed a double-double by one rebound, finishing with 22 points and nine boards. He was 5-of-7 from the field, 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and made all 10 of his free throw attempts.

Carryl, one of Oakwood's top newcomers, scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including a 3-pointer and a free throw.

The Ambassadors shot 41.8 percent (23-of-55) from the field, including 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from distance, and 78.6 percent (33-of-42) from the free throw line.

Micah Samuels led the Shock with 25 points. Porter scored 19 points and Chris Davis chipped in with 10.

WAU shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the field, including 7.1 percent (1-of-14) from 3-point range, and 65.2 percent (30-of-46) from the charity stripe.
