OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION NOT ENOUGH TO GET OAKWOOD IN THE WIN COLUMN

HIALEAH, Fla. – Oakwood University combined for a season-high 19 hits Wednesday, but Florida National managed to sweep the Ambassadors 9-3 and 16-15 in a doubleheader at Ernest R. Graham Park.

Oakwood fell to 0-4 on the season, while Florida National improved to 3-6.

Game 1

Derrick Sanders went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI to lead the Ambassadors in the opener.

Oakwood trailed 9-0 entering the seventh inning before Sanders' two-run single prevented the shutout.

The Ambassadors finished with three runs on six hits, but committed five errors.

Jordan Jennings, Joshua Mack, Jeremy Matos and Treyvon Jones had one hit apiece for Oakwood.

Dakota Cobb (0-2) took the loss, allowing nine runs, six earned, on 13 hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out one.

Game 2

Oakwood used a 10-run fourth inning to overcome a 10-2 deficit to take the lead, but wasn't able to secure the victory after giving up the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Ambassadors trailed 10-2 after the first two innings, but scored one in the third and 10 in the fourth to take a 13-10 advantage.

The Conquistadors scored two runs in the fifth to pull within 13-12, but Oakwood pushed two runs across in the top of the sixth to go up 15-12.

Florida National tied it with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and then won it in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk.

Mack and Sanders had three hits apiece to lead the Ambassadors.

Mack was 2-for-5 with two RBI and scored a run, while Sanders was 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored a run.

Kyler Bradley was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Jennings, Matos, Tedrus Hamilton, Jorge Hernandez and Akari David all had one hit apiece.

Jennings had two RBI and scored a run, while Matos hit his first homer of the season and had two RBI and scored two runs.

Hamilton finished with two RBI and scored a run, while Hernandez scored two runs and had an RBI.

Woods had an RBI and scored three runs, while David had two RBI and scored two runs. Jones also scored two runs.

Oakwood finished with 15 runs on 13 hits and committed just one error.

Dawryn Coronado (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs, both earned, on one hit in one inning.

The two teams will meet today at 11 a.m. in another doubleheader.
