KEYS SHINES, BUT OAKWOOD FALLS TO VOORHEES

DENMARK, S.C. – Saniya Keys scored 19 points, but it wasn't enough as Voorhees University came away with a 69-57 victory over Oakwood University in a key HBCU Athletic Conference game Saturday night inside the Leonard E. Dawson Resource Center.

Keys was 8-of-12 from the field, but the rest of the team was just 16-of-47. Nobody else had more than eight points for the Ambassadors.

The loss dropped Oakwood to 9-14 overall and 7-10 in league play. Voorhees improved to 12-13 and 5-12.

The Ambassadors led 12-11 after the first quarter, but were outscored 58-45 the rest of the way.

Oakwood shot 40.7 percent (24-of-59) from the field, including 11.8 percent (2-of-17) from 3-point range, and 50 percent (7-of-14) from the free throw line.

Inga Colclough led three Voorhees players in double figures with 20 points. Ty'Shemia Bunkley and Shy'Kiera Brown finished with 12 points each.

The Tigers shot 36.5 percent (23-of-63) from the field, including 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from beyond the arc, and 77.3 percent (17-of-22) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood closes out the regular season Tuesday at Talladega College.
