OAKWOOD USES BIG FOURTH PERIOD TO BLOW PAST FISK IN HBCUAC ACTION

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University used a big fourth period to break open a close game and went on to beat Fisk University 75-64 Saturday night inside Ashby Auditorium in an HBCU Athletic Conference women's basketball game.
 
The Ambassadors trailed 45-44 entering the period, but outscored the Bulldogs 31-19 to stay unbeaten in league play.
 
Oakwood improved to 6-5 overall and 4-0 in HBCUAC play with the victory. Fisk fell to 4-7 and 1-3 after losing its fifth straight game.
 
Saniya Keys led the Ambassadors with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting and had a game-high 17 rebounds.
 
Brittany Howell finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. She was 5-of-8 from the field with four assists and two steals.
 
Trenisha Adams scored all 11 of her points in the fourth period, including two big 3-pointers, to spark Oakwood. She also had three rebounds, five assists and a steal.
 
Maliyah Hughes had 10 points, two rebounds and two steals.
 
The Ambassadors shot 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from the field, including 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from 3-point range, and 68 percent (17-of-25) from the free throw line.
 
Ari Branch led three Fisk players in double figures with a game-high 23 points. Kayla Lee and Harmonie Bolton had 16 and 11 points, respectively.
 
The Bulldogs shot 38.7 percent (24-of-62) from the field, including 25 percent (4-of-16) from beyond the arc, and 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood is off until Jan. 3 when it hosts Tougaloo.
