OAKWOOD FALLS TO FREED-HARDEMAN IN HOME OPENER

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University women's basketball fell behind early and never recovered Saturday night as Freed-Hardeman pulled away for an easy 83-48 victory inside Ashby Auditorium.
 
The Ambassadors fell to 0-2 with the loss. The Lions improved to 1-0.
 
Saniya Keys finished with 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Oakwood.
 
She was 5-of-9 from the field, 5-of-6 from the free throw line and had one steal and one block.
 
Lydia Josiah backed Keys with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting, including a 3-pointer.
 
The rest of the team combined for just 22 points.
 
The Ambassadors shot just 32 percent (16-of-50) from the field, including 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from 3-point range, and 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the free throw line.
 
Carissa Curtis led five Freed-Hardeman players in double figures with 21 points, including seven 3-pointers.
 
Lilly Kee finished with 16 points. She was 8-of-9 from the field.
 
Rachel Satterly and Ally Weathers scored 12 points apiece, while Jenna Satterly added 11.
 
The Lions shot 45.3 percent (29-of-64) from the field, including 38.2 percent (13-of-34) from beyond the arc, and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood will try to pick up its first win of the season Tuesday night when Pensacola Christian College invades Ashby Auditorium. Tipoff is 5:30.
