ADAMS, REASOR SHINE FOR OAKWOOD IN SEASON-OPENING LOSS TO CUMBERLAND

LEBANON, Tenn. – Trenisha Adams and Alecia Reasor scored 16 points apiece, but it wasn't enough as Cumberland University built a big lead early and cruised to an easy 87-70 victory over Oakwood University Thursday night in the season opener for both teams inside Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
 
The loss dropped the Ambassadors to 0-1, while the Phoenix improved to 1-0.
 
Oakwood trailed 53-24 at intermission and never threatened the rest of the way.
 
Adams was 6-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. She also had five rebounds and two steals.
 
Reasor was 3-of-7 from the field, including a 3-pointer, and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. She also grabbed four rebounds and had two steals.
 
Saniya Keys, the HBCU Athletic Conference's preseason Player of the Year, scored 13 points, had four rebounds and two steals, while Jatya Lester finished with 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting and four rebounds.
 
The Ambassadors shot 39.4 percent (26-of-66) from the field, including 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from beyond the arc, and 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the free throw line.
 
Braley Bushman led Cumberland with 20 points.
 
Emaleigh Tarpley finished with 15 points, followed by Maddie Brillhart with 14, Ty Buckley with 13 and Julia Varpness with 12.
 
The Phoenix shot 40 percent (28-of-70) from the field, including 35.5 percent (11-of-31) from 3-point range, and 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood will host Freed-Hardeman Saturday in its home opener. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
