OAKWOOD VISITS FISK TODAY IN IMPORTANT HBCUAC DOUBLEHEADER

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Oakwood University will visit Fisk University today in an important HBCU Athletic Conference doubleheader inside Henderson A. Johnson Arena.

The women's game is slated for 5 p.m., followed by the men's game.

Women's Preview 

The Ambassadors (5-9, 3-6) enter today's game in last place in the HBCUAC East Division, but have played better of late.

Ronnie Abrams' team has won back-to-back games for the first time all season, beating the University of the Virgin Islands 85-69 and Wiley College 66-61 at the Talladega HBCUAC POD last weekend. 

The emergence of freshman guard Kamaria Murray has been a welcomed surprise, Abrams said.

Murray is the reigning HBCUAC Freshman of the Week after averaging 15 points and four rebounds against Philander Smith and UVI.

She was 11-of-21 from the field, including 7-of-15 from 3-point range, and also had seven assists and six steals.

Saniya Keys leads the league in scoring (18.8) and rebounding (11.7), while shooting 54.7 percent from the field.

Trenisha Adams is averaging 12 points and 4.1 rebounds. She leads Oakwood in made 3-pointers (43), assists (49) and steals (32).

Fisk downed Oakwood 85-60 in Huntsville back on Nov. 14.

The Bulldogs (6-11, 6-5) enter today's game in third place in the East Division.

Fisk is led by Jayla Bibbs, who is averaging 11.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. She had 21 points in the first meeting.

Men's Preview

Oakwood (1-15, 0-9) will try to snap its 13-game losing streak today when it visits Fisk (6-11, 6-5).

The Ambassadors are currently in last place in the East Division, while the Bulldogs are in fourth place.

Fisk whipped Oakwood 80-63 back on Nov. 14 in Huntsville as Justin McNelkan finished with 29 points, including nine 3-pointers, while Doyel Cockrill III scored 21.

The Ambassadors trailed only 39-36 at intermission, before being outscored 41-27 in the second half.

Jordan Bell is Oakwood's top player.

A 6-foot-6 junior forward, Bell is averaging 15.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He also leads the team with 19 blocks.

Cockrill III is averaging 19.4 points to lead Fisk. McNelkan is averaging 11.9 points per game, while Michael Ashley is averaging 10.6 points and 11 rebounds per game.
