OAKWOOD USES BIG SECOND HALF TO BLOW OUT UVI

TALLADEGA, Ala. - Oakwood University, clinging to a 40-30 advantage at intermission, dominated the second half Saturday night and went on to blow out  the University of the Virgin Islands 85-59 in the Talladega HBCUAC POD.

The Ambassadors outscored the Buccaneers 45-29 in the final 20 minutes to snap their two-game losing streak and pick up their second conference win of the season.

Oakwood improved to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in league play. UVI fell to 0-7 and 0-6.

Saniya Keys led five Ambassadors in double figures with 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting. She also had six rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block.

Trenisha Adams finished with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range. She also had eight steals, six assists and four rebounds.

Kamaria Murray had 12 points, including three 3-pointers, She also had five assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Morgan Bone and Dekezia Moore finished with 11 points each.

Oakwood shot 45.7 percent (32-of-70) from the field, including 37.9 percent (11-of-29) from 3-point range, and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the free throw line.

The Ambassadors outscored the Buccaneers 30-14 in points off turnovers and 27-8 in bench points.

Ashukamay'ah Phillips led UVI with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Kashay Bass finished with 16 points.

The Buccaneers shot 34.4 percent (22-of-61) from the field, including 15 percent (3-of-20) from beyond the arc, and 53.8 percent (14-of-26) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood will play Wiley College Monday at 10 a.m. on the final day of the Talladega HBCUAC POD.
