BRESCIA SPOILS RUDOLPH'S DEBUT AS BEARCATS SWEEP OAKWOOD

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Brescia University spoiled Oakwood University head baseball coach Jalil Rudolph's debut Thursday as the Bearcats swept the Ambassadors 8-0 and 11-3 at John Hunt Park in the season opener for both teams.

Rudolph, the lead assistant the last two years, was promoted to head coach after Richard Hodnett stepped down last season.

Game 1 

The Ambassadors trailed just 2-0 through six innings before the Bearcats erupted for six runs in the seventh inning to break it open.

Eli Kennedy was solid in his college debut, allowing only one run on three hits in four innings of work in taking the loss. He walked three and struck out four.

Anthony Brent Jr. worked the last three innings, allowing seven runs, including six earned, on two hits in three innings. He gave up a grand slam to Chase Christie in the seventh that helped Brescia win convincingly. Brent Jr. walked seven and struck out three.

Jeremy Matos, Jayden Rolling, Akari David and Treyvon Jones had one hit each for Oakwood.

Game 2 

Matos had two hits, including a pair of doubles, scored two runs and had an RBI to lead the Ambassadors in the nightcap.

Jennings, Rolling and Joshua Mack had one hit apiece. Jennings also scored a run, while Mack had an RBI.

Oakwood took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a run-scoring double by Matos and trailed just 5-3 through three innings, but was outscored 6-0 the rest of the way.

Dakota Cobb (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs, all earned, on 10 hits in 5.1 innings of work. He walked one and struck out one.

Oakwood and Brescia will finish the series in a single game today at 1 p.m. at John Hunt Park.
