OAKWOOD STRUGGLES IN LOSS TO PHILANDER SMITH

TALLADEGA, Ala. – Oakwood University struggled early and never got untracked enroute to a 73-61 loss to Philander Smith today at the Talladega HBCUAC POD.

The Ambassadors got 30 points from Kamaria Murray and Morgan Bone, but Saniya Keys and Trenisha Adams, Oakwood's two leading scorers, combined for just nine points on 4-of-15 shooting. Keys entered the game leading the league in scoring (19.4) and rebounding (12.5), while Adams was averaging 12.5 points per game.

The loss, Oakwood's second straight, dropped the Ambassadors to 3-9 overall and 1-6 in league play. The Panthers improved to 11-6 and 4-4.

Murray had one of her best all-around games of the season, finishing with 18 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists in 40 minutes. She was 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7 from 3-point range.

Bone finished with 12 points.

The Ambassadors shot 38.5 percent (25-of-65) from the field, including 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from 3-point range, and 70 percent (7-of-10) from the free throw line.

Dasia Turner led Philander Smith with 25 points. Omoiye Jordan finished with 17 points, including four 3-pointers.

The Panthers shot 50 percent (28-of-56) from the field, including 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood will take on the University of the Virgin Islands today at 6.
