OAKWOOD USES BIG SECOND HALF TO BLOW OUT RUST COLLEGE

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Saniya Keys and Kamaria Murray combined for 28 points in the second half Thursday night as Oakwood University went on to whip Rust College 74-52 in a critical HBCU Athletic Conference game inside Ashby Auditorium.

The Ambassadors trailed 29-25 at intermission before outscoring the Bearcats 49-23 in the second half.

Murray and Jon'Toyrian McNeal combined for 17 points in the third quarter to help Oakwood outscore Rust 23-14 in the period and then Keys scored 15 in the fourth quarter as the Ambassadors outscored the Bearcats 26-9 to win going away.

The win, Oakwood's fourth straight, lifted the Ambassadors to 7-9 overall and 5-6 in league play. Rust fell to 6-12 and 5-7.

Keys led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds. She was 8-of-12 from the field with a 3-pointer and two steals.

Murray finished with 16 points and two rebounds. She was 5-of-6 from the field, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Murray also had four assists, two steals and a block.

McNeal, in her best game of the season, finished with 11 points and five rebounds.

The Ambassadors shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field, including 45.5 percent (5-of-11) from 3-point range, and 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the free throw line.

Talyia Cawthon led Rust with 18 points and nine rebounds. Patsy Johnson finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Bearcats shot 34.5 percent (20-of-58) from the field, including 35.3 percent (6-of-17) from 3-point range, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood is off until Thursday when it hosts Wilberforce in a key HBCUAC game.
