JOHNSON, ARNETT HELP OAKWOOD EARN SPLIT AGAINST LEMOYNE-OWEN

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Katie Johnson was almost perfect at the plate, going 6-for-7 with a double, three RBI and scored three runs, and Sydney Arnett threw another complete game to help Oakwood University split a doubleheader with LeMoyne-Owen College Monday afternoon.
 
The Ambassadors took the opener 6-3, while the Magicians rallied to win the nightcap 6-5. Oakwood is now 8-18 on the season, while LOC is 3-17.
 
Game 1
 
Johnson singled to open the game and came around to score two outs later on an inside-the-park home run from Taylor Mancone to stake Oakwood to an early 2-0 lead.
 
Johnson added a two-run double in the fourth, while Kaley Fuller and Jana Morrow also recorded RBI in the inning to give the Ambassadors a 6-0 lead.
 
Johnson finished 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and scored two runs. Ashlyn Hallman and Taytum Lowe finished 2-for-4 and scored a run each.
 
The Magicians erupted for three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Arnett got out of trouble and went on to claim the victory. Arnett (7-7) allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits in seven innings for work. She walked two and struck out 15.
 
Game 2
 
The Ambassadors pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a one-run lead, but the Magicians pushed across the game-winning run in the bottom of the inning to win 6-5.
 
Mancone, who finished 4-for-8 on day with three RBI and scored two runs, was 3-for-5 in the nightcap. Hallman, who was 5-for-8 on the day with two RBI and scored a run, was 3-for-4 in the second game with two RBI and a double. Jana Morrow was 2-for-6 on the day with two RBI and run scored, was 2-for-4 in the second game with an RBI and scored a run.
 
Hallman (0-4) took the loss, allowing six runs on 10 hits in six innings of work. She walked three and struck out five.
 
Oakwood hurt itself by leaving 16 runners on base.
