FAIRRIS, MATOS AND AGUILAR COMBINE FOR SEVEN HITS IN LOSS TO RUST COLLEGE

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Jaylen Fairris, Jeremy Matos and Chris Aguilar combined for seven hits Thursday afternoon, but it wasn't enough as Rust College downed Oakwood University 27-9 in its Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener at Bearcat Field.
 
The Ambassadors fell to 0-11 on the season and 0-1 in league play, while the Bearcats improved to 5-16 and 2-2.
 
Oakwood trailed 10-7 midway through the third inning, but Rust erupted for 14 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and went on to claim the easy victory.
 
Fairris was 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Matos was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and scored three times, while Aguilar was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.
 
Jorge Hernandez had a hit, a walk and scored a run, while Tedrus Hamilton had a hit and scored a run. Ahmad Woods had a hit, while Jayden Rolling had an RBI and scored a run as well. Mateo Hamm walked and scored two runs, while Dakota Cobb scored a run.
 
Dawryn Coronado (0-1) took the loss for the Ambassadors. He allowed 16 runs, 14 earned on 10 hits in 3.1 innings of work. He walked eight and struck out three.
 
Oakwood and Rust will complete the three-game series Sunday afternoon. The doubleheader will start at 12 p.m.
