HAMM, FAIRRIS SHINE FOR OAKWOOD AGAINST SUNO

 
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Mateo Hamm had three hits and Jaylen Fairris had two, including a 2-run homer, but it wasn't enough as Southern University of New Orleans swept a three-game Gulf Coast Athletic Conference series from Oakwood University, beating the Ambassadors 20-2, 7-0 and 21-2 recently at John Hunt Park.
 
Oakwood fell to 0-20 on the season and 0-6 in league play.
 
Game 1
 
Fairris hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull the Ambassadors within 6-2 and help them avoid the shutout in the opener. Unfortunately, the Knights erupted for 14 runs in the top of the eighth inning and went on to win convincingly.
 
Fairris was 1-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and scored a run. Hamm and Chris Aguilar accounted for Oakwood's other two hits.
 
Dakota Cobb (0-2) took the loss, allowing 20 runs on 12 hits in eight innings of work. He walked 11 and struck out nine.
 
Game 2
 
Jordan Jennings and Hamm had Oakwood's lone hits on the day.
 
Hamm (0-3) took the loss, allowing one run on three hits in three innings of work. He walked one and struck out four.
 
Game 3
 
Jorge Hernandez staked Oakwood to an early 2-0 lead with a two-run double in the first inning, but the Ambassadors were held scoreless the rest of the way.
 
Hernandez, Fairris, Hamm, Jeremy Matos and Erick Perez had a hit each.
 
Cobb (0-3) took the loss, allowing 21 runs on 17 hits in seven innings of work. He walked three and struck out three.
