TALLADEGA, Ala. – Oakwood University, playing without leading scorer
Nekaya Williams and starting center
Jon'Toyrian McNeal, suffered its third straight loss Thursday night as Talladega College came away with a 58-37 victory in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game at the Hawkins Student Activity Center.
Williams and McNeal both sustained ankle injuries in Monday's loss to Stillman College.
Oakwood coach
Ronnie Abrams is hopeful Williams can play Saturday night against the University of the Virgin Islands. McNeal, Abrams said, could be out up to two weeks.
The Ambassadors fell to 6-15 overall and 4-8 in league play. The Tornados, who avenged their 71-46 shellacking at Oakwood back on Dec. 2, improved to 7-14 and 4-6.
Nariah Alexander led Oakwood with 13 points.
Alecia Reasor finished with 10.
Oakwood shot 20.4 percent (11-of-54) from the field, including 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from 3-point range, and 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the free throw line.
Amayla Sharif led three Talladega College players with 16 points. Arieonna Booker and Makayla Arnold finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Tornados shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the field, including 33.3 percent (2-of-6) from beyond the arc, and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the charity stripe.
Oakwood hosts UVI at 6:30.
