STILLMAN OVERCOMES WILLIAMS, OAKWOOD IN OVERTIME

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Nekaya Williams continued her hot play Monday night, finishing with a game-high 24 points, but Stillman College outlasted Oakwood University 66-59 in overtime inside Ashby Auditorium in a nonconference game.
 
The loss dropped the Ambassadors to 6-14 overall. The Tigers improved to 13-9.
 
Oakwood led 14-6 after the first quarter and took its largest lead of the night with just under four minutes left before halftime on a layup by Williams to go up 22-11.
 
Unfortunately, Stillman closed the first half and the third quarter with a combined 14-5 run to pull within 40-34 going into the fourth quarter.
 
Denaj'za Jackson's layup gave the Ambassadors a 44-37 advantage with just over eight minutes remaining, but the Tigers regained the lead, before Williams' two free throws with 44 seconds left forced overtime.
 
Williams' 3-pointer pulled Oakwood within 60-59 with 37 seconds left in the extra period, but Stillman scored the last six points to complete the season sweep.
 
Williams was 6-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range, 7-of-9 from the free throw line, grabbed one rebound and had four assists in 44 minutes.
 
Alecia Reasor backed Williams with 11 points and six rebounds.
 
The Ambassadors shot 35.2 percent (19-of-54) from the field, including 22.7 percent (5-of-22) from 3-point range, and 80 percent (16-of-20) from the free throw line.
 
Former Lee High standout Jamariah Turner led Stillman with 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Former Hazel Green star Farrah Pearson finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Thaniyah Marks added 12 points.
 
The Tigers shot 31 percent (22-of-71) from the field, including 22.7 percent (5-of-22) from deep, and 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the charity stripe.
 
Oakwood visits Talladega College Thursday night in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game. Tipoff is 6.
