OAKWOOD, FISK COLLIDE IN IMPORTANT GCAC GAME TONIGHT

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University women's basketball hasn't won back-to-back games all season.

However, after beating Wiley College a week ago on the road, the Ambassadors (6-12, 4-6) will try to do just that when Fisk University (12-7, 9-2) invades Ashby Auditorium in an important Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game tonight at 6:30.

In order to do that, Oakwood will have to contain Maya Buckhanon, the Bulldogs' senior forward and reigning GCAC Player of the Year.

Buckhanon is averaging 22.9 points and 15.2 rebounds per game. She had 23 and 11 in a 68-49 win over Oakwood back on Jan. 9 in Nashville.

"She's a handful," Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams. "We've got to find a way to slow her down if we're going to have a chance to win."

Fisk, who is currently in second place, also has two other capable players in Zipporah Davis and Jayla Bibbs. Davis is averaging 10.8 points per game, while Bibbs is averaging 9.1 points and 10.1 rebounds.

Oakwood, who is currently in sixth place, is led by Trenisha Adams and Nekaya Williams.

Adams is averaging 13.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. She is shooting 39.5 percent from 3-point range and has a team-high 51 3-pointers. The rest of the team has 44.

Williams is averaging 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds.

After tonight's game, Oakwood will host Stillman College Monday at 5:30 p.m.
