OAKWOOD USES BALANCED ATTACK TO DOWN VOORHEES

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Nekaya Williams scored 19 points to lead a very balanced attack as Oakwood University won its third straight game Tuesday night with a 70-64 victory over Voorhees University inside Ashby Auditorium.

The Ambassadors improved to 10-16 overall with the win. The Tigers fell to 5-16.

Oakwood built a 55-35 lead after a Williams layup with 5:37 left in the third quarter, but Voorhees used a 25-8 run to pull within 63-60 with just over four minutes left in the game on a layup by Hallia Carl.

Fortunately, Denaj'za Jackson and Nariah Alexander scored back-to-back buckets for the Ambassadors to make it 67-60 and Oakwood hung for the victory.

Williams was 7-of-12 from the field, including a 3-pointer, made all four of her free throws, had two rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Jackson finished with 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including a 3-pointer, five rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Trenisha Adams scored 16 points and 5-of-12 shooting, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Jon'Toyrian McNeal scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Oakwood shot 42.4 percent (25-of-59) from the field, including 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from 3-point range, and 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the free throw line.

Carl led three Voorhees players in double figures with 21 points. Cambria Parker and Inga Colclough finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Tigers shot 42.6 percent (26-of-61) from the field, including 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from deep, and 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the charity stripe.

Oakwood hosts Rust College today at 5:30 in an important Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game.
