ADAMS CONTINUES HOT PLAY IN LOSS TO RUST COLLEGE

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Trenisha Adams scored a game-high 17 points, but Rust College flexed its muscle over the last two quarters, outscoring Oakwood University 43-22 over that stretch and went on to beat the Ambassadors 70-41 Monday night inside Kinzell Lawson Gymnasium in a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game.
 
Oakwood trailed just 27-19 at intermission, but never threatened over the last 20 minutes.
 
The Ambassadors fell to 7-16 overall and 5-9 in league play with the loss. The Bearcats extended their winning streak to nine straight games and improved to 22-3 and 14-1 with the win.
 
Adams, who scored a career-high 29 points in Saturday's win over the University of the Virgin Islands, was 6-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. She also grabbed two rebounds and had one assist.
 
The rest of the team combined for just 24 points.
 
Oakwood shot 25 percent (15-of-60) from the field, including 18.2 percent (4-of-22) from beyond the arc, and 70 percent (7-of-10) from the free throw line.
 
Karyn Ford led two Rust College players in double figures with 15 points. Niya McGuire finished with 13.
 
The Bearcats shot 39.4 percent (26-of-66) from the field, including 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from deep, and 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from the charity stripe.
 
Rust outscored Oakwood 32-16 in points in the paint, 20-3 in points off turnovers and 38-13 in bench points.
 
Oakwood visits Southern University of New Orleans Thursday at 5 p.m. in a GCAC game.
