OAKWOOD LOOKING TO SNAP THREE-GAME LOSING STREAK AS UVI COMES TO TOWN

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Oakwood University will try to snap its three-game losing streak tonight when the University of the Virgin Islands invades Ashby Auditorium in an important Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game. Tipoff is set for 6:30.
 
The Ambassadors, who are currently in seventh place in the conference, enter the game 6-15 overall and 4-8 in league play. The Buccaneers, currently in last place, are 1-15 and 1-11. UVI opened the season with 13 straight losses before beating Wiley College 54-47 on Feb. 1.
 
Oakwood is hopeful leading scorer Nekaya Williams can play tonight. Williams sustained an ankle injury in Monday's loss to Stillman College and missed Thursday's game at Talladega College. She is averaging 14.4 points and 6.3 rebounds. Williams had 19 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals in a 61-37 win at UVI back on
Jan. 6.
 
The Ambassadors will be without starting center Jon'Toyrian McNeal, who sustained an ankle injury against Stillman. Oakwood coach Ronnie Abrams said McNeal could be out for up to two weeks.
 
Without Williams, more of the offensive load will fall on Trenisha Adams, who is averaging 12.7 points and 4.9 rebounds. Adams leads the team with 54 3-pointers and is shooting a team-high 35.8 percent from deep.
 
UVI will counter with Ashukamayah Phillips and Brea Patterson.
Phillips is averaging 12.6 points and 4.3 rebounds, while Patterson is pouring in 12.1 points and 3.1 rebounds.
